Principal’s Report
We are already passed the halfway mark of Term 1 and the students are all very busy and working hard in all areas.
Science News
Dr Rakimov has been writing a question relating to varying topics on the whiteboard outside the science room and students have been invited to share their answers. The students have eagerly supported this and there have been many entertaining responses. This week’s question was ‘What is your favourite animal?’
Staff Development Day
Last Friday, the teachers had a busy day learning about a program called Brightpath as another measure of assessing students writing. For the afternoon session the teachers were learning how to use all the wonderful functions of the new Seesaw communication platform. Mr Ker has information for parents further on in the newsletter. The wonderful support staff spent the majority of the day sorting out storerooms which constantly seem to attract mess.
School Board Update
On Monday 27 February we held the first board meeting for the year. Mr Xavier Teo was elected back in as Chairperson, William Lim as Deputy Chairperson and Ms Jess Owsiak remains Secretary. We welcome two new faces to the board, Ms Sarah Wiley has joined as a parent representative and Ms Rachael Roberts as community member. Rachael is very involved with Environment House in Bayswater. We look forward to a productive year.
School Dress Code
Unfortunately I have noticed some students are not compliant with the Student Dress Code Policy. In particular, wearing very short black shorts, hair that is longer than the top of the collar, nail polish and jewellery. A copy of the policy can be found on our website under Enrolment and Policies. Please reread the policy to familiarise yourself with the requirements. The policy is endorsed by the School Board.
Bike Safety
It is advisable for children not to ride bikes and scooters on the school grounds. The area near the bike racks becomes very congested, particularly after school and children weaving on their bikes around the pedestrians is a safety concern. Riding down the service driveway as the slope allows the bike to gather momentum is also a safety concern.

New Communication Platform – Seesaw
This year we have decided to utilise the platform Seesaw as a way to increase and improve our communication with the school community. Seesaw is a platform for student engagement that inspires students of all ages to do their best. Students can use creative tools to take pictures, draw, record videos and more to capture learning in a portfolio. Teachers can find and create activities to share with students and then have the opportunity to share these educational experiences with families in an efficient and effective way. Families can see their child's work and leave comments and encouragement. Research shows that family involvement is one of the best predictors of student success. The Seesaw Family app opens two-way communication and enables families to become active partners in their child’s learning.
Your child will bring home a “Connect to Seesaw QR Code” tomorrow. This information sheet will provide information and instructions on how to use this free app. You have the ability to use the app on your phone, iPad and computer. It is very easy to setup and use. Please follow the instructions on the information sheet.

Hampton Park Primary School prides itself on being a Waste Wise Accredited school. Each classroom is responsible for collecting and recycling one item. Hungry Hamptons Canteen
Our canteen days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
You can order online with Flexischool or at the canteen window from 8 to 9 am.
We always need help and support in the Canteen, last Thursday was a perfect example with over 100+ online orders to be filled. That’s a lot of hungry children and we never want them to be waiting for their lunch. This is why we ask for volunteers to help, because many hands make light work and volunteering is a great way to get involved at your child’s school. If you have an hour or so to spare between 8am – 12pm, please pop in or get in touch with Deb at canteen@hppspandc.org.au
Scholastic Book Club
Edition 1 book club orders will be here very soon. The new Edition 2 magazine will be coming home with students this week, please keep an eye out for these. It’s really great to see lots of students ordering books.
We also want to thank students for the online/cash orders. Please continue to drop cash orders into the library box or order online via the link below:
