Principal’s Report

Welcome to Hampton Park Primary School for 2023. There have been some changes around the school with a few more to come but most things have remained the same.

We welcome to the school the Specialised Learning Program (SLP), for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We have some new teachers to welcome aboard as well as the return of some teachers from leave. Structurally there will be some minor changes which I will explain later in the newsletter.

Specialised Learning Program

An update for everyone as to where we are up to with the new program that has commenced here this year.

We would like to welcome Mrs Alison Wade as the Coordinator and three new teachers, Mrs Elisa Buchanan, Mrs Naomi Johns and Ms Sophie Makse. The Education Assistants are being selected this term and there will be eight new positions. We are currently calling for Expressions of Interests from parents for their child to be included in the program. Parents are welcome to ring the school and ask to speak with Mrs Wade. The children don’t start until Term 3 this year. The staff have intensive training schedules to undertake between now and then as well as establish the three classrooms. Room 5 and Cluster 6 have minor work to be done internally to prepare the rooms. There will be a transportable coming in for the Early Childhood classroom. This building will be placed near the nature play in the Early Childhood playground. The fence line will be shifted so the room is part of that area. Unfortunately, a box gum tree will need to be removed to fit the building in, like always, if we remove a tree, we replace it with another one. Currently the site is being studied for an electrical upgrade. There will also be a new carpark built on the Hamersley Avenue side of the school, we are waiting for confirmation on the location.

School Board

The first meeting for 2023 will be on Monday 27 February at 5:30 pm. The meetings are held in the board room which is in the Administration building. This year there are two vacancies for parent positions on the School Board. If you are interested in nominating or wish to nominate someone else, please collect a nomination form from Mrs Janice Clamp, Manager of Corporate Services. Nominations will close on Friday 24 February at 3:15 pm.

Parents and Citizens

The Parent and Citizens (P&C) group will hold their first meeting on Monday 20 February at 6 pm. This will also be in the board room. Entrance through the main front door. This is an Annual General Meeting for the purpose of electing office bearers for the year. All are welcome to attend.

Communications with Parents

The staff have made a unanimous decision to change the platform that we use to communicate with families. We have been using the program CONNECT but have found many parents have problems with accessing the information or sending messages back. We will be transitioning over to a program called SEE SAW. The teachers need a small amount of training and then we will advise families of how to access it from the parents' perspective. Hopefully everyone will find this one easier to use.

Before and After School Care

Our school has partnered with an independent provider called TheirCare to provide exceptional Outside School Hours Care services for our school community.

The program is available for all children at Hampton Park Primary School from 6:30 am until 8:50 am in the morning and from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm each school day.

Families wishing to use this service can visit the TheirCare website:

https://theircare.com.au/

Families are eligible for a Government Rebate called the Child Care Subsidy which can reduce the cost per session by up to 85%. More information can be obtained by contacting the school or ringing TheirCare Support Team on 1300 072 410.

TheirCare provides a stimulating and safe environment for all children. During sessions, children develop life-skills, friendships, confidence and creativity through play-based programs.
