Principal’s Report

Immunisation Clinic

It was terrific to see so many families taking advantage of the free flu immunisation clinics here at the school last week. I hope it is a service that we can continue to provide in the future.

Unwell Students

There is still a large amount of children coming to school sick. Please, I urge you if your child is unwell in anyway, please keep them home. Owing to high absenteeism caused by COVID the teachers will not be reporting on attendance this semester.

Sausage Sizzle

The P&C are desperate for assistance. They would love more helpers at the Election Day Sausage Sizzle this Saturday 21st May. Any time that you can spare between 7.30am and 2.30pm on Saturday would be greatly appreciated. They are also taking donations of sweet and savoury cakes and muffins etc. to sell at their cake stall on Saturday. Donations can be made through the canteen on Friday between the hours of 8.30am and 3pm. Thank you in advance for your support of our P&C.

In Term Swimming

We are booked for swimming lessons for Week 7 and 8, being 7th to 17th June. All children from Pre-primary to Year Six need to attend these lessons.

I know the idea of swimming in winter isn’t always appealing. However, the pool is heated so the children are warm when in the water. The in-term swimming is the cheapest way for parents to have their children taught the valuable and sometimes life saving techniques of swimming. Swimming deaths in Australia are very high, particularly among young males. By September last year 136 drowning deaths had occurred on coastal waters, a 13% increase on the previous year. 75 drowning deaths occurred in rivers and creeks, this is a 53% increase on the previous year. Please don’t let your child become a statistic. Learning to swim is imperative when living in Australia.

If the cost of the lessons is an issue please see Mrs Janice Clamp to organise a payment plan to make weekly or fortnightly payments.

School Chaplain

Next week we are hoping to meet our new school chaplain, Mr Joshua Benjamins. Joshua will be working on Mondays and Tuesdays, mostly based in Room 6. Families can request for their child to be seen by the chaplain as well as teacher/staff requests. There will be more information regarding this once Joshua commences.

Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC)

Assessment of Year 4 Students for the Peac Program

The PEAC Program provides part time extension and enrichment for exceptionally able students in Years 5 and 6. PEAC offers a range of courses that provide identified students with work that is intellectually challenging. All students in Year 4 will have the opportunity to be assessed for suitability for the PEAC Program.

Testing at Hampton Park Primary School will occur on Monday 1st August, 2022 (Term 3, Week 3). The scores from the test will be used in the selection of students for PEAC courses and extension programs during 2023 to 2024 and also to inform educational provision in schools.

If you do not wish your child to be included in the PEAC assessment, please notify the school in writing by Tuesday 7th June 2022.
