Principal’s Report
As we come to the close of this Semester, I would like to thank all the families in our school community for your amazing ability to cope with change and adapt to new routines at short notice. We have gone from no one at school, to children only, to parents outside classroom doors, limited parents at assemblies, all whilst remembering to socially distance to now being able to welcome parents back into the school to pre Covid-19 conditions as we commence Phase 5 throughout the state. Thank you for your flexibility and compliance without complaint. Least not that I ever heard anyway.
Reporting to Parents
The Semester One reports are in their last stages of preparation before being printed ready to hand out to parents next week. Parents are welcome to go to their child’s classroom teacher between 3.00pm-3.15pm next Wednesday afternoon to collect their child’s report directly from the teacher. K2 parents will receive theirs on the Thursday. Any report not collected by 3.15pm will be taken to the Administration office. Reports can then be collected from the office until 9.30am on Thursday. Following that reports will be taken to the Post Office to be mailed home. This is done in this manner to ensure that as parents you do actually receive the report.
School Holidays
Next Friday 2nd July is the last day for this term. A reminder that children commence on Tuesday 20th July for Term Three. This is a Professional Development day for the staff.
Term Three
This term is usually a very busy term and this year looks to be no different. We have the Police Pipe Band coming in the first week for an incursion, no fees. We have a water incursion for Years One to Six again at no cost. The Faction Cross Country is scheduled for Friday of Week One with the Interschool on the following Friday 30th July. There is PEAC testing for Year Fours in Week Four, Book Week is Week Six, Faction Athletics in Week Eight, School Photos in Week Nine, then Interschool Athletics in Week Ten. Further information about these events will come out closer to the times.
Renovations
The classrooms in the cluster block are receiving a major overhaul during the holidays. The ceilings are all being replaced and then the concertina doors are being replaced with solid walls with two doors in the middle. Hopefully a new shelter will be built for the Kiss and Drive area in order to have better coverage from the elements of nature. This is being paid for with funds that were committed by the Labor Government if they retain office.
School Survey
Thank to all the parents that participated in the survey. There was a very positive tone overall. At this point in time we are able to see the rating pages but unfortunately the written responses need a different report and I am still waiting on correspondence to be able to find the responses.
Merit and Values Awards
Congratulations to the following students who received a Merit Certificate or Values Award at our last assembly.

Year Six Sausage Sizzle – Thank You
The Year Sixes would like to thank everyone who made the annual Sausage Sizzle a huge success. We raised an amazing $989.85. This total will go towards the Graduation celebrations at the end of the year. A big thank you to the parents and staff who gave up their time to help make the day run smoothly.

Year Three Incursion
As part of the WA Curriculum, the Year Three students attended an incursion by the Fire Department on the 10th June. The Firefighters from Kiara Station spoke to the students about;
- The role of a firefighter.
- Fire prevention and response messages, including 000 and how to respond to a beeping smoke alarm.
- Safety gear and equipment, including a demonstration of the pump (fire truck).
- Encouraging everyone to have a smoke alarm.
The session concluded with students getting to view and interact with the fire vehicles and the water hose. The students asked interesting questions and were well behaved during the session.

Chinese News
This is an update on the fun cultural activity mentioned in the last newsletter. I hope your children have already shared their experience of making and eating spring rolls with you. I must say that all students, except for a very small few, were looking forward to the activity. Excitement filled the air as we rolled up the little dim sum morsels, cooked and ate them. The two and a half days went so quickly and so did the thousand spring rolls. It was such a pleasure to teach the students how to prepare this popular Chinese food with their eager anticipation and great appreciation. I hope they would encourage you, parents and caregivers, to have a go at making them at home with the semester break fast approaching. Happy making and cooking!
The activity wouldn’t have gone so smoothly if not for the help of parents and staff. I would like to acknowledge with a huge “Thank You” the following parents and staff for their invaluable time and help over those few days. My sincere appreciation goes to:
Mrs Ainsworth (Kasey’s and Maddison‘s Mum), Mr McMaster (Hayzel’s Dad), Ms Kirk (Aiden’s Mum), Mr Zheng and Mrs Tong (Dorianna’s parents), Mrs Huang (Angela’s Mum), Grandma Helen (Kristal A’s Grandma), Mrs Cardy (Ex-Staff Volunteer), Mrs Guest (Hiroki and Emily’s Mum), Mrs Todd, Mrs Kustra, Ms Sirichoti, Mrs Newman (Chinese committee members), Ms Zhang (Confucius Institute) and Mrs Kantharatnam for giving up their own time to help with the preparations, setting up, cooking, cleaning up and anything else that needed doing.
I have attached a few pictures that captured the moments of fun and excitement we had last week.

Winter Carnival
Well done to all our teams and coaches on their efforts at this year’s Winter Carnival.
Our football, soccer, netball and modcrosse teams played very well and more importantly, enjoyed themselves doing it. The netball teams earned high praise from a parent (from another school) on their exemplary behaviour and manners.
Congratulations to the football team who remain undefeated for the season and won the Winter Carnival and Eagle's Cup this year.
Eagle’s Cup
Another season has come and gone and again our teams acquitted themselves very well on the sporting fields.
We are waiting on some results from some games still to be played by other schools to determine final placings, but the football team went through undefeated and have secured another Eagle's Cup title. Our netball teams played very well and improved with each game, the soccer teams never gave up and some victories came their way too.
We had 90 kids represent the school in this tournament, and it is great to see how much it means to them to represent the school in Interschool games.
Thanks to Jules Bingham and Bec Te Kiri for their assistance with the netball teams in both competitions.
