Principal’s Report

Welcome to Hampton Park Primary School for 2021. Although it was a very confusing start with the extended vacation leave for students and staff, plus the wearing of masks last week, I can now say we are back on track and all is flowing well. We are living very much for the moment in the current climate, with predictions for future events very hard to make.

New Administration Building

We are now officially in our new Administration building. The official opening by the Hon Sue Ellery Minister for Education was scheduled for last Wednesday 10th February but had to be cancelled due to COVID restrictions.

Open Night Cancellation and School Board Meeting Postponement

Last week we also had to make a decision to cancel our annual Open Night, which would have been tonight, Wednesday 17th February and postpone the first School Board meeting for the year. This decision was made due to our official commencement being a week later and unknown knowledge of the future regarding COVID practises. There will be a rescheduled event later in the year when it is clear to plan events again.

Classroom Policies

The teachers will still be sending home their classroom polices next week. If you have any queries please contact the school to make an appointment with the classroom teacher.

Change to Communication

This year we are making a switch from using Class Dojo to using a program called Connect. The Connect program is supported by the Education Department and is their preferred platform. This also means if we have any issues with Connect the Department’s technical team can assist. Further information will be sent out with the classroom policies to assist with parents making the transition from Class Dojo to Connect.

Student Councillors

Every year we have Year Six students involved in a Student Councillor program. For Term One we have six children chosen to be Councillors. All the Year Six students are eligible to be voted to a position by their peers in Year Six in Term One. In Term Two those six children are not eligible and another six children are voted in by the Year Six peers. At the end of Term Two the students are asked to nominate to be on the Student Council for Semester Two. These children then deliver a speech to the children in Year Four to Six and this extended group then vote in eight Student Councillors for the remainder of the year. A Head Girl and Head Boy is selected from this group. I know this sounds a little confusing but it does work. It allows more children leadership opportunities and it also allows for children who are new to the school to become known by their peers, giving them an opportunity to stand for selection.

Congratulations to the following students who have been voted in for Term One 2021.

School Board

As part of the cyclic process of a School Board, places become available due to either the end of / or members are unable to complete their tenure. At this point in time the Hampton Park Primary School, School Board is calling for two parents to fill the positions on Hampton Park Primary School, School Board. If you are interested in being part of the governance of the school, please complete the attached form and return to Janice Clamp, our Manager of Corporate Services. For further information regarding the activities of the School Board please see a copy of the Governance Tree attached or visit the school’s website below following the links to read the Terms of Reference for the School Board.

School Chaplain

Mr Jaxon Johnston is returning this year as our School Chaplain. He will be still working out of Room 4 but has changed his days to Monday and Wednesday. Please contact the office if you would like details on how to get in touch with the Chaplain.

Additional Specialist Programs

In addition to our four specialist programs of Health, Music, Mandarin and Physical Education; this year we have expanded to include Drama and Library Studies. For Semester One the children in Years 1 to 3 will have drama with Mrs Jo Carroll and the Year 4 to 6 children will have Library Studies with Mrs Wendy O’Neill. The groups are then reversed for Semester Two.
