Principal’s Report

Welcome back to Term Four, as I am writing this there are exactly ten weeks until Christmas, I image those weeks will fly by very quickly as the term is again another very busy one.

Quadrangle Resurfacing

During the holidays the school had work done on the quadrangle. The old surface, that was very damaged concrete, has been replaced with a new surface. The product is called GreenSet and is an acrylic topped product. The Rod Laver Arena that the Australian Open Tennis is played on has this type of surface.

Our school choose the blue court with green surrounds to match to the basketball courts.

We have also had the verandas re-oiled around the edge of the quadrangle. Next week Cluster Four will be getting new carpet as the old carpet is badly torn. All these projects have been funded by the Department not our school itself.

Visitors who use the front entrance to the school, which is off Hamersley Ave, may have noticed the front steps have been replaced with a ramp. Currently the ramp is blocked off waiting for the railing to be installed. Visitors may choose to walk down past the Dental Therapy Centre or along the edge of the Administration building and around the corner and back up the other smaller ramp. The ramp has been installed to allow easier access for baby prams, wheelchairs and for the cleaners to access the bins, which have now been relocated to behind the basketball courts. It will be very useful when completed.

Disruptive Children

From time to time some of the children may display behaviour that is not acceptable to all people. Please be aware that the school staff are working with these children, finding different strategies that will assist the child.

Swimming Lessons

This week, forms were sent home for children to participate in our annual in-school swimming lesson program. The swimming is part of the children’s Physical Education program. The in-school lesson program provide the cheapest lessons that children can participate in, as parents don’t need to attend and therefore aren’t paying for their own pool entry. For many children, to be successful in passing through the swimming stages they often need two sets of lessons per stage. For example, the October holiday lessons followed by in-school lessons or the in-school lessons followed by the January Vacation swimming lessons.

I cannot express enough the importance of children learning to swim when living in Australia. Australia is an island; we are surrounded by water. 15.4% of houses in Western Australia have a swimming pool. Last year there were 248 drownings in Australia with 33 of those in WA. Please don’t let your child become a statistic.

Learning to swim also gives children an opportunity as teenagers of having either part-time of full-time work as a pool attendant in the Shire operated pools or even the opportunity for part-time work as a swimming instructor.

Please return your completed forms to the school as soon as possible.

Room 7 News

The students from room seven had a very busy Term Three. They built dioramas recreating natural tourist attractions in South America. They are excellent 3D representations.

Interschool Athletics Carnival

After two days of competition, jumping, throwing, running and team games, our athletics team finished in a very creditable second position. We fell less than 20 points short of the winners, Anzac Terrace Primary School. Special mention must be made of Cain S, who finished Runner Up Champion in the Senior Boys division. Our Junior teams were amazing in their team games, winning or placing in all of them. Thanks to Madi S for taking some time out of her lunch to help train them. Thank you to Ms Oswiak for her efforts with the year 3/4 teams who also performed well. Our game day Junior Coach, Mrs Avichzer and Senior Coach, Mrs Cunningham did a wonderful job and earned their holidays. All our teams achieved placings in leader ball, pass ball or in the flag relay.

All our competitors deserved their “celebratory icy poles” and we look forward to going one better next year.

Voluntary Contributions

Thank you to everyone who supports the school by paying their voluntary contributions. I know we do receive funds from the Government for the managing of the school, however sometimes it doesn’t seem quite enough to cover all the extra bits and pieces. We can only afford to do extras like this through the generous donations of those who pay their voluntary contributions. It is $60 per student and payment plans are welcome. Please discuss with Mrs Clamp in the front office if you would like to make such an arrangement.

Vac Swim

Enrolments are now open for VacSwim swimming lessons during the summer school holidays.

VacSwim in January offers fun lessons at beach or pool locations during the long break. Not only are they a great school holiday activity, they teach valuable safety skills to help keep your child safe in the water.

Your children can start as young as five years old.

Don’t wait! Enrol your children in VacSwim now at education.wa.edu.au/vacswim

School Board

Dear parents/carers/guardians,

Welcome back to the last school term for 2020.

To keep you informed on what the School Board does, please find below the items we have endorsed and accepted in our 17th August 2020 Board meeting:

  • 2021 School Development Day dates – 26th February, 4th June and 19th July; and
  • 2021 Charges and Contributions.

You will be pleased to know that contributions will remain at $60 per child and payment plans are available to parents if required.

It is also good to note that the school does not retain any charges for extra optional items and acts only as a facilitator of the transaction to the respective suppliers.

As Yvonne mentioned in the last newsletter, Commonwealth Bank is inviting nominations and applications for the 2021 Teaching Awards which closes on Friday, 16th October 2020.

This is a great window of opportunity for us to nominate HPPS teachers and recognise their outstanding commitment to improve our children’s education, especially during the COVID-19 period.

Please click on the link below to complete the simple 2-step nomination which will take less than 5 mins.

As usual, you can find our latest and previous Board minutes from our School Board webpage.

Please email us at hpps.schoolboard@gmail.com if you have any questions for the Board and we will endeavour to respond to them in a timely manner.

Thank you and speak soon.

Kind Regards,

Xavier Teo
Board Chairperson

School Banking

We’re Back! Hampton Park Primary is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students again.

School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way to help teach your child the importance of saving. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.

The rewards available during 2020 are:

Terry Denton’s Activity Book
Mini Soccer Ball (size 2)
Treetop Stationery Set
Treetop Handball
Tomato Seed Kit
Magic Mist Drink Bottle
Emoji Wallet
Snakes & Ladders Game

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.

Getting involved in School Banking is easy!

All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:

1. Online
Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.

2. In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.

If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.

School Banking day is Wednesday. Each week you need to see Connie in the Library from 8:15am. (Deposit books may also be left in the P&C box in the office and will be processed on the following Wednesday).

If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2020 School Banking program parent guide from the school office or visit the link below.
