Principal’s Report

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly the time during a term passes. Here we are in week eight and it has been such a busy few weeks. Hopefully as we leave winter behind we might have less illness going around the school. Many of our students have been unwell in recent weeks.

Drumbeat

We are very pleased to announce that our Drumbeat program has recommenced and there has been some wonderful Djembe drumming coming from the Music room on Mondays.

Carnival Thank You

What a day it was! A huge thank you to Mr Lee for the great job he did with the Faction Carnival. It is a huge job preparing and coordinating the day and as always the day was a huge success. Congratulations Mr Lee! He was supported by a number of staff members on the day and I would like to thank them also. A big thank you to all of the canteen staff for the terrific work they did in making sure everyone’s appetite was taken care of, well done to you all.

I would like to acknowledge the outstanding behaviour of all of our students. They were absolutely terrific on Friday and it allowed for the day to run extremely smoothly.

Thank you to parents/carers for understanding the guidelines that we put in place and for staying in the marked off areas during the events. As I explained during the day it was important that we could provide a safe, fun and responsible day for all members of the school community and I believe we did that.

School Photos

Our school photos are Wednesday the 16th September. If you require any further informtion regarding this, please see the office staff.

Kiss and Drive Carpark

I would like to thank all parents using the Kiss and Ride. It has been running extremely smoothly and it’s because people are moving through the area and not parking. A gentle reminder that the speed limit is 10kmh due to the foot traffic through the car park.

Assembly

Thank room two, Mrs Falco and Mr Rakimov for a great performance at the last assembly.

Merit Awards

Congratulations to the Certificate and Award winners at our last assembly.

Public Speaking Competition

This year, the Public Speaking Competition will be held in term four. It will be held along with room 3’s assembly on Wednesday the 21st October. This term the students are preparing their speeches in the classroom. They will be bringing their speeches home to practise. Please help them by listening to the speeches and making sure they have a palm card with a few ideas to remind them of what to say. They are encouraged to not read their speech or have any props, but to speak to the audience. We are looking for good stance, a clear voice, engagement with the audience and great ideas. The class finals will be held next week and the year level finals in the last week of this term. Two students from each year level will be selected to be in the final of the Public Speaking Competition in term four.

Faction Athletics Carnival

What a great day we had for our main Athletics Carnival last Friday. A big thanks must go to the athletes for providing the entertainment and another big thanks to all of our parents for their support of the students and of our Covid conventions. It made for a fantastic and really enjoyable day for all involved. A great big thank you to the Wednesday ladies helping at the Jump Pit and Throwing Zone – Jules, Nicole, Emily, Elena, Natalie and Bec your help was greatly appreciated.

O’Connor (Green) won the day as Champions after a very tight tussle with Gairdner (Gold) and the 7 points separating them was heavily scrutinized by the officially official officials to make sure the margin was official and correct. Stirling (Red) took home the spirit shield as testament to their vocal efforts all day, the efficiency of their captains Madie and Tyler and the way their athletes stuck to the task in a display of resilience and sportsmanship.

Our training will now focus on the Interschool Athletics carnival in week ten.

The divisions are Junior (Year 1 + 2), Intermediates (Yr 3 + 4) and Senior (Yr 5 + 6).

Our team will be selected based on our Faction Carnival results and team game training commitment. At this stage the both Interschool Carnival days will be student only events. More information to follow.

Recycling news

Just a reminder that we are still collecting toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes for recycling. It is recommended that we change our toothbrushes every three months and lining that up with the change of seasons is a good way to remember. Please send the old toothbrushes to PP2 or Room 1 for recycling. Your child will receive 100 faction points for each item they bring in. Thank you for your help and remember together we can make a difference!

Voluntary Contributions

Thank you to everyone who supports the school by paying their voluntary contributions. I know we do receive funds from the Government for the managing of the school, however sometimes it doesn’t seem quite enough to cover all the extra bits and pieces. We can only afford to do extras like this through the generous donations of those who pay their voluntary contributions. It is $60 per student and payment plans are welcome. Please discuss with Mrs Clamp in the front office if you would like to make such an arrangement.

School Photos 16th and 17th September

Photo envelopes must be returned to the class Teachers no later than the 9th September. We have a new company this year called Midland Photographers. All the information including sibling photos is clearly marked on the envelope.

Vac Swim

Enrolments are now open for VacSwim swimming lessons during the October and December/January school holidays.

October is a great time to get your children ready for summer and January offers fun lessons at beach or pool locations during the long break.

Your children can start as young as five years old.

Enrol your children in VacSwim now at the link below.
