Principal’s Report

As this semester draws to a close I feel that it will certainly be one that we remember for a long time. It presented many challenges to all, with people needing to make choices that they had never considered before. I for one am still very thankful that I live in Western Australia.

Parents/Carers On-site

At this stage, the information given to the schools remains the same in relation to parents coming into the school. Social distancing is still a requirement and I ask all parents to respect this.

Assemblies

This Wednesday will see the return of our assemblies. We’ve been unable to have a full assembly since the 11th March. It is a student only assembly this week. Next term we will be allowed to return to normal assemblies with parents in attendance, however, at this stage, it is still a requirement that physical distancing of one person per two square metres remains in place.

Upcoming Events

The faction carnival will now be able to take place as planned in week seven of Term Three. However, owing to the amount of work that is required prior to the T & E day, this had to be cancelled. We also have postponed the Speech Day. The Speech Day will now take place in Term Four.

Parent/Teacher Meetings

Parent teacher meetings can take place again as long as physical distancing is still maintained. If you wish to speak with your child’s teacher, please send them a message via Class Dojo to arrange a suitable time for the meeting.

Staff News

This week we farewell Mrs Falcone as she begins her maternity leave. We wish Mrs Falcone all the very best for her and her growing family’s future. Mrs Gardiner will commence full time in C1, Mrs Mel Kolev will be sharing in C3 and Mrs Rebecca Speldewinde will be working in C4. We welcome both Mrs Kolev and Mrs Speldewinde back to the school following their maternity leave.

School Development Day

The first day of Term Three, Monday 20th July, is a School Development day. This means that the students are not to attend school that day. The staff will be spending time on the Zones of Regulation and Digital Technologies during this day.

Late to School

Please remember that the school bell goes at 8:45am and children need to be in class by then. The classroom doors all open at 8:30am to allow students time to get all their belongings ready for the day. If your child is late to class it means that they have missed out on vital information for their day, plus they are distressed about being late. On Monday 29th June 29 students were late to school, that is over 8% of the student population. This impacts on the office staff as each student has to present to the office to receive a late note. Please be more mindful of the time in the mornings and have children here ready to start the day before the siren. This is good practise to develop in the children as when they eventually leave school and join the workforce lateness would not be tolerated.

Reporting to Parents

As previously mentioned, student reports go home today. Owing to the COVID-19 restrictions the children will be given the report to take home to their parents. If your child doesn’t bring a report home on Wednesday, please ring the school ASAP to locate where the report is. Kindergarten One received their reports on Tuesday.

Mandarin News

欢迎回到中文课室!

Welcome back to Mandarin classes this term. We have all settled into our routines and are glad to have some degree of normalcy so I would like to share with you what we have been doing in the Mandarin classroom. Across the year levels, we have been busy working on different topics. The Year Ones continue to learn about colours, meanings of colours and words for happy and unhappy/sad. The Year Twos are learning fruit names in Chinese and talking about their preferences. The Year Threes are learning about pets, hence the little animal corner where pandas have paid us a visit. Our school chaplain, Mr Johnston, was quick to ask if they have been quarantined. I am sure Ikea did that, Mr Johnston! There are animal plush toys and hand puppets for oral language activities. The Year Fours are working on food and drinks and in this present climate, will have to be content with only play food items. As for the Year Fives, they are moving on from talking about the furniture in their bedrooms to other parts of their house. They are still working on their paper model bedroom corners. We are also talking about the main activities that take place in these areas of the house. The Year Sixes are onto hobbies and leisure activities. They were excited to put on their hobby/leisure activity outfits. Finally, we will be having some language games and activities to round up the term.

I would like to thank Mrs Firby for having most kindly taken the time and effort to use her artistic ability to create the landscape backdrop for the pandas.

  • Parent helpers; Claude Capozzi, Lara Maas, Julianne Bingham and Amy Feleppa.
  • Sam Barrett from our school canteen.
  • Admin and Office staff and students at HPPS.

We raised $1271.85.

2021 Kindergarten Enrolments

Enrolments are now open for our Kindergarten program for children whose date of birth falls between the 1st July 2016 and the 30th June 2017. Enrolments will close on Friday 24th July 2020. Once we have confirmed enrolments, notification of acceptance will be sent in writing.

Due to the current Covid-19 situation please complete the Application for Enrolment form on our website and return it by email to hamptonpark.ps@education.wa.edu.au

DETECT Schools Study

You may remember that our school is one of 80 public schools, education support settings, and residential colleges from the metropolitan area and the regions participating in the DETECT Schools Study: Understanding the impact of COVID-19 in Western Australian Schools.

In Week 1 of Term 3, students in Years 4-6 will be asked to complete the first of two brief 15-minute surveys. The second survey will be completed in November, 2020.

Children will be asked to answer questions about:

  • Their age, gender, languages spoken at home
  • How COVID-19 has affected them at school, at home and with their relationships

Most children who have participated in similar research have enjoyed the experience and like to feel heard and valued in their opinions. However, some children may feel that some of the questions we ask are stressful or upsetting. If a child does not wish to answer a question, they may skip it and go to the next question, or they may stop immediately.

We have notified our school’s psychologist and chaplain, and they are available if any student appears upset or stressed as a result of completing the survey. All students will be given information about the Kids Helpline.

If your child is showing any signs of distress after completing this survey, please contact the school office.
