Principal’s Report
It is wonderful to welcome in our Spring months with such lovely weather recently. We were very fortunate to have such great weather last week for our athletics carnival. It was terrific to see so many parents and family members in attendance to support the students.
Athletics Carnival
There are many people that need to be thanked for the work that was done on, prior to, during and after the carnival.
Firstly, to the P&C for organising all the amazing prizes for the raffle and then running the raffle on the day. For organising and running the cake stall and to the many wonderful parents that supported the cake stall with their terrific donations. For selling the faction shirts prior to the carnival and on the day and for booking the ice-cream/coffee van, that was very well attended.
Secondly, to the families that supported the P&C’s activities by purchasing the various items that were available. The P&C are working hard to raise enough funds to build a shelter over the limestone steps.
Thirdly, to the Hampton Park Primary staff, the setup and pack up on the day is always a very stressful time. Mr Lee is to be commended on the work he did, coming in at 5:30am two mornings in a row to ensure that everything was as it should be on the day. Mr Lee was assisted on the Friday by Mr Ker who arrived at school at 6am. There are many schools in the state where teachers would not volunteer so much of their own time to guarantee the orderly, successful running of a sporting carnival. To many other staff members too who assisted on the day with the setup and then the pack up at the end of a very long day. It is wonderful to see how well everyone co-operates. There are always some mistakes made or oversights not noted as we are all humans and all humans make mistakes sometimes. I would like to thank the two parents that emailed the school for requests to be considered for future carnivals, it is always nice for feedback to be given respectfully. One issue of concern was the Early Childhood children not having shade, I believe there were a few concerned parents regarding this issue. The school will be purchasing another shelter so that this doesn’t occur again. We will also be addressing the issue of how team game selection is managed so no one is left feeling neglected.
Fourthly, to the parents that were willing to risk life and limb to participate in the sprints and team games. We held two inaugural races, one for the females and one for the males, with competitors racing over 50m. It was wonderful to see so many wonderful runners, the women’s race in particular was a very close finish. Congratulations to the parents for winning the pass ball.
School Uniform
Earlier this year the staff and then the School Board spent a considerable amount of time reviewing current policies. The revised policies will be placed on the website soon. One policy in particular that had some major components changed when it was revised was the uniform policy, with the biggest change being that red t-shirts will no longer be an option to wear to school. The changes will come into effect in 2020. Please check the web site for the revised policy.
Student Engagement and Behaviour Policy
Changes were made to this policy to bring it into line with new Government policy, regarding Good Standing Policy in particular. This policy will also take effect in 2020.

Father’s Day Morning in Kindy 2
On Friday 30th August our Kindy 2 class hosted a Father’s Day morning. There was biscuit decorating, crafting, footy and soccer, special Daddy stories and a selfie station. We held a paper aeroplane competition and we finished with a special song just for the Daddy’s. The highlight would have to have been seeing the man scaping station in action with lots of the Dad’s receiving a shave from their children (don’t worry, not a razor in sight).

Author Visit Incursion
On Friday 20th September, we have a special visit from Author and Illustrator Dr Cameron Stelzer. Dr Cameron is visiting Hampton Park Primary School to run workshops with the students in Cluster 5 and Room 1 to 9. Notes have gone home, and the cost is $4.
Please return the permission slip and money by this Friday 13th September.
Cameron will be engaging students in a writing workshop exploring exciting and descriptive language. The students are reading his fabulous books in their classes. We are looking forward to a great day!
In conjunction with the Author Visit, Hampton Park PS families have a special opportunity to purchase signed and personalised copies of Cameron’s books at special prices. Individual books are $15 each and there are also exclusive book sets available. Students will receive an order form on the day of the workshops. Forms and payment can be returned the following Monday, 23 September, to the Office.
Australian Reading Hour
On Thursday 19th September stop what you’re doing for one hour and pick up a book. It is Australian Reading Hour Day. In children, reading has been shown to help with identity formation, setting them up for success in the future. In adults, reading has been shown to reduce stress by 68% more than listening to music, going for a walk, or having a cup of tea. Please share a book with your children of every age on Thursday and everyday!

Faction Carnival
Woweee what a great day, busy busy exhausting but great. The weather gods broke their current pattern of raining cat’s n dogs on Fridays, instead delivering a beautiful sunny day. Competition was fierce and fair….except in the Parent, Teacher, Captains Pass Ball!!!! Thanks to the many parents for their contributions in the cheering on of Athletes and for purchasing many cakes and ice creams to help out the P&C coffers.
Congratulations to Blue Faction (Forrest) on their big win and to Red (Stirling) for their winning of the Spirit Shield.

Kindy Enrolments 2020
Do you know anyone in the community looking for a Kindy place for 2020? We have limited places still available. Applications forms are due NOW. For more information, please contact the school office.
Tooth Brushes
It is recommended that toothbrushes are replaced every three months and a good way to remember when to change them is at the start of each season. Spring has sprung so it is time to change the toothbrushes at your house. If you are replacing them please send the old ones to Room 1. We send them to Terra cycle and they are made into park benches. It takes 100 years for a tooth brush to break down and contaminate the soil. Please don't throw them in the bin! Your children will get 100 faction points for each toothbrush and/or tooth paste tube they bring to Room 1. Remember together we can make a difference.

Helping Hands
It’s that time of year again families, time for our annual Telethon bake sale. We will be selling some yummy goodies on Tuesday the 24th September at lunchtime outside Room 5. Items included will be cupcakes, doughnut pancakes and more. Please remember to bring change. Items will range from 50c - $2 and all funds raised will go to Telethon to support sick children in WA. As always thank you for your support, it is greatly appreciated.
Head on over to our Fundraising page to see what we have been up to with the support of our sister services from Bayswater and Caversham. You can see it all at the link below:

We have also been working hard on our community project of making an around the world game board, sparked from an interest in travelling and holidays. We have been doing a lot of research on the places we chose to use as pitstops and have made challenges for each one. We used this opportunity to link up with the Morley Flight Centre and gained some valuable information from them. Our children are loving the game and have been playing it every day since we finished.
We are getting geared up for the next school holidays, which will be held at Sutherland Dianella Primary. Our current program is set to be heaps of fun. Enrolments can be done through the link below and selecting Sutherland Dianella. If you have any questions please call us on 0428 614 999 or email us at hamptonpark@helpinghandsnetwork.com.au
