Principal’s Report

Welcome back to term two, I trust everyone had a happy and relaxing Easter break. We’ve had a very smooth start to the term and hope it continues as the weeks get busier. This term has many sporting activities with our annual Eagles Cup Competition starting Friday 10th May. We finish the term with two weeks of swimming lessons, that hopefully all children from years Pre Primary to Year Six will be participating in. We have NAPLAN testing this term for the children in Years Three and Five. Amidst it all the teachers will be working with the children expanding their knowledge and understandings then reporting to parents on their child’s progress with the first of the summative reports for this year. Hopefully everyone stays healthy throughout the term so they can participate in all the activities. The P & C will be holding Mother’s Day stall and the Colour Explosion Run this term as well as running a sausage sizzle on Election Day 18th May.

ANZAC Service

Last Wednesday 1st May the school held an ANZAC service. I would like to thank Mrs Salleo for her organisation of the service, Ms Moore for working so well with the school choir to produce such wonderful singing, the teachers and students who sat so well throughout the service.

Student Councillors

Many thanks to the outstanding six that started the year off so well in their student council work. I am sure we will see some of you back for semester two.

As previously mentioned we are trialling a different approach to the election of student councillors, giving more children an opportunity for leadership. This term’s fantastic councillors will be:

Gabriella.S
Jade.B
Jasmin.H
Hayden.Y
Wayne.W
Jordyn.F

Faction Captains

The positon of faction captains was also voted on last week, congratulations to the following children who will be leading their faction this year or assisting in the leading. Well done to so many children that display leadership skills, it is a great attribute to develop for the future.

After School Playground Use

While I enjoy families coming together and getting to know each other whilst watching their children play after school there are still some issues that need to be considered.

I would like to remind parents and children that the Early Childhood playground that is where the Kindergarten and Pre-Primary rooms are is only to be used by the Kindergarten and Pre Primary students after school. Parents are encouraged to stay between 10 and 15 minutes only in this area. The school rules still apply after school so this means no climbing over the fences to get from one playground to another. Children playing on the equipment at the end of the clusters are reminded that their parent must be there watching them, that is eyes on the children at all times. Many children are running on the service road to the east of that playground which is very dangerous. Deliveries are still made even after children have gone home and parents of children at the afterschool day care, Helping Hands, use the road to collect children. Please ensure that if your children are playing in the school grounds after school that you have eyes on them and know where they are at all times. Again I encourage parents to stay no longer than 15 minutes after school, the staff are often in meetings after school or are busy with preparation work or marking. It is extremely difficult for them to concentrate after school if children are still running around outside their room. The other consideration we have is to the cleaning staff, they also need to be able to access rooms and complete their task without disruptions.

Easter Parade

It was a wonderful assembly at the end of last term with a large number of families being able to attend as we watched all the classes’ parade in their Easter hats. Many thanks again to the members of the P & C who supported the school with the Easter Raffles and the prizes for the most creative hats in each class. It was delightful to have our Kindergarten and Pre Primary students present as well.

Kindy 2 all dressed up in their Easter Hats ready for their first Easter Hat Parade!

Welding

This is a request to have a very small amount of spot welding done at the school. If there is any parent or family friend available that has a welder and the time to complete the job please call the office on 9413 4200. We simply require two chains welded onto the fence near the staff carpark.

Kindy Enrolments

We are now taking Kindy enrolments for 2020. The earlier we receive our enrolments the easier it makes it for the school to plan for class sizes and associated staffing. Enrolments for Kindergarten close on Friday 26th July. Once we have confirmed enrolments, the parents of new students will be invited to an event to meet staff and find out more about the school and the Kindy program in term 3.

Please spread the word to your friends and family in the area so we can be as prepared as possible for students starting their first year of school. To enrol, contact our friendly office staff or fill out the enrolment form via our website.

Inter School Sport Term 2

Welcome to a very busy term for our sporting teams.

We begin our Eagles Cup competition next week and then every Friday. This involves Home and Away games against Noranda, Camboon and Hillcrest. Our season starts at Home against Noranda Primary School this Friday.

We will have 1 AFL, 2 x Netball, 1 x Basket Ball and 1 x Soccer team (For all of our games) and require some parental assistance with umpiring/coaching (especially Netball). If you are able to assist, please contact Mr Lee ASAP.

Our annual Winter Carnival, featuring AFL, Netball, Soccer and Lacrosse, will enable all children to play one of these sports in Week 8 of this term.

Swimming Lessons will be in week 9 and 10 with all children form PP-6 participating. Information and Permission Notes will be sent home shortly (when costings are finalised).

We have an old piano if anyone is interested please contact us.

Combining Robotics and Art in Pre-Primary

We combined programing the Spheros with making a giant beautiful artwork (3m x 2m) inspired by the abstract artist Jackson Pollock. The students all took a turn using the iPads to draw a path for the Sphero. When they started the Sphero on its path it rolled through paint to make the picture.

Earn & Learn 2019

Hampton Park Primary is excited to be taking part in the 2019 Woolworths Earn & Learn program. During the previous campaign, we were able to purchase some great resources with the points we earned, thanks to you.

From now until June 25th 2019, you can collect stickers at Woolworths that go towards Earn and Learn points. For every $10 you spend at Woolworths (excluding the purchase of tobacco, liquor and gift cards), you will receive a sticker. These stickers can then be given to your children to collect on a special sticker sheet. Once it is completed, they can simply bring it back here to school or you can drop them into your local Woolworths collection box.

The more points we earn, the more we can redeem from a choice of over 10,000 educational resources including mathematics and English resources, art & crafts materials and much, much more!

We are grateful for your support and look forward to a successful program. If you have any questions, please ask at school.

We currently have boxes at Noranda, Bennett Springs and Morley. If you have completed sticker sheets we also have a box in the office and the ECE.
