Principal’s Report

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly the time during a term passes. Here we are at the second last week of term again and as predicted it has been a very busy one. Hopefully as we leave winter behind we might have less illness going around. Many of our student have been very unwell in recent weeks. I trust everyone will enjoy their spring break and returned refreshed and ready to go again on Tuesday 9th October remembering that Monday 8th October is a Staff development day, which means that the students stay at home.

Carnival Thank You

Unfortunately I was unwell the week of the carnival as such I missed out on all the fun of the big athletics carnival day. I would like to acknowledge the heavy work load that Mr Lee undertook in the lead up to the carnival and is doing again as we are the host school for the interschool carnival next week. Mr Lee was supported by Mr Ker, Mrs de Jonk and all the staff on the day I believe did an amazing job. A huge thank you to the members of the P & C, including canteen staff for the terrific work they did before and on the day in making sure everyone’s appetite was taken care of, well done to you all.

Voluntary Contributions

Thank you to everyone who supports the school by paying their voluntary contributions. I know we do receive funds from the Government for the managing of the school, however sometimes it doesn’t seem quite enough to cover all the extra bits and pieces. For example the bus costs for attending the interschool carnival next week are extremely high; so that those children who are gifted in sports aren't always paying out large amounts to cover travel cost the school is subsidizing the bus costs for interschool. We can only afford to do extras like this through the generous donations of those who pay their voluntary contributions. It is $60 per student and payment plans are welcome. Please discuss with Mrs Clamp in the front office if you would like to make such an arrangement.

School Survey

As mentioned in the previous newsletter, the school will be conducting the National Schools Survey again next term. The survey will be open from the 22nd October until the 9th November. The survey is held every two years and assists the school with information that helps with our future planning. The survey is conducted on line, however if you prefer a paper copy they will be available in the classrooms and at the front office. If you would like to complete the survey online but don’t currently have access to a computers we will be making lap tops available at the school.

Interschool Touch Rugby

Congratulations to the touch rugby team that won the series in term one. This has qualified the team to play in the state finals this coming Thursday. I would like to wish all members of the team a great day. While remembering that we play sport for fitness, fun and friendship it is still very special to represent your school in a State Final. Good luck.

Mandarin News

Hi, this term has flown by so quickly. In Mandarin classes, we have been busy learning the language relating to family members, pets, parts of the body, daily routine, parts of the house, food and nationality across the year levels. It is great to see the increased levels of enthusiasm amongst students to learn and use the target language in and out of the classroom. Six of our students have entered in the CLTAWA 2018 Statewide Writing Competition at the end of August. These students are Tran Q (R7), Jade B (R8), Nicolle T (R8), Jayden W (R8), Madison M (R3) and Ariane S (R1). They must be commended for their willingness to put in the extra effort to work on the essays at home and the courage to have a go at this event. It is also very exciting that Jade and Nicolle (Rm 8) are also participating in the CLTAWA 2018 Statewide Speaking Competition to be held at UWA on 15th September. I am sure you all would wish them all the best in this endeavour!

We are also celebrating the up and coming Mooncake /Mid-autumn festival (24th September) when we return after the school holidays with the sampling of mooncakes. Should your child have any dietary or other requirements and hence cannot participate in this activity, please feel free to speak to me directly or through the school or your child. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Faction Carnival

Faction Carnival Congratulations to O'Connor (Green) Faction on their impressive Faction Carnival win. Their individual and team game efforts saw them first past the post by a reasonable margin.

Thank you to all the parents who helped out on the Wednesday and those that offered their services on Friday, it was greatly appreciated.

The upset of the day had to be in the annual Teachers v Parents v Captains pass ball challenge - Parents won!!! which broke the 10 year strangle hold on the event the teachers have held.

Congratulations to all the kids on their efforts in events and cheering on their factions, it really was a great day.
