Principal’s Report

Welcome back to term three. Hopefully everyone had a safe and relaxing break. The school has had several improvements take place during the holidays, the western end of the cluster and the northern side of the undercover area now have awnings to protect children from the rain as they walk around the school. The library has some internal walls and rafters painted with new blinds being installed; this has completed the work that was commenced last year. The nature playground in the Early Years Centre has been commenced; at this stage I don’t know the estimated completion date. The senior nature playground was completed last term and is now available for the students in years 1 – 6 to use.

Term three is traditionally a very productive term and this year it is shaping up to be the same with many events scheduled for this term. It is also very much a curriculum focused term with consolidation and continuation of the learning schedules. While I understand the need of some families to travel during the school term the Education Department requires that prior to booking your holiday you seek the approval of the School Principal. This is so a check can be made to ensure your child does not miss important events that are happening in the classroom or the school. Please check the Schools Web page for a copy of the calendar.

Many thanks to Claire Shepard and her team of wonderful volunteers that have transformed the northern side of the Early Childhood Centre with wonderful vegetation planted into the new soil that they dug in. Many hours have been spent by Claire and her team to transform the arid area that it was into a lovely growing space where the children can interact with the natural environment and help harvest the fruits of the trees and plants.

The School would like to express their condolences to Mrs Karen Morrison on the passing of her husband last Friday after a long battle against cancer. Karen is an Education Assistant in the Kindergarten classroom and will be returning to her role sometime this term.

We have had some changes to staffing this term. Mrs Wendy O’Neil is still on sick leave and Mr Chris Toerien is continuing on in room 6. With Mr Goddard’s departure at the end of last term we have appointed Mr Dan Hill to room 7 for term three, this means that the Science position is temporarily vacant and Dr Adrian Rakimov will be providing Science to the children in Years 1 – 6 until the return of Mrs Alix Williams who is still on sick leave. Mrs Janice Clamp has been reappointed into the Manager of Corporative Services role while Mrs Maria Dunn is undergoing chemotherapy following her breast cancer surgery last term. Mrs Jenny Nash-Wilcox will be working in the front office, replacing Mrs Clamp as a School Officer every Monday, Tuesday and Friday for this term. Mr Purdy is still the Acting Principal at Arbor Grove PS for this term which allows Mr Ben Ker to continue on as the Deputy Principal here and for Mrs Marie Gardiner to continue as the teacher in room 8. We wish all our staff who are recovering from illness a speedy recovery.

Gifted and Talented:

Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC)Assessment of Year 4 students for the Peac Program

The PEAC Program provides part time extension and enrichment for exceptionally able students in Years 5 and 6.

PEAC offers a range of courses that provide identified students with work that is intellectually challenging.

All students in Year 4 will have the opportunity to be assessed for suitability for the PEAC Program.

Testing at Hampton Park will occur on Tuesday 7th August.

The scores from the test will be used in the selection of students for PEAC courses and extension programs during 2019 to 2020 and also to inform educational provision in schools.

If you do not wish your child to be included in the PEAC assessment please notify the school in writing by 2nd August 2018.

Congratulations to our school teams on their fantastic efforts in last term's Eagles and Fever inter school sports.

Our Football, Netball A and Soccer A teams were the winners in their divisions. Thanks go to our coaches and to the parents who came to watch the games.

Winter Carnival

Our school was represented in the annual carnival by AFL, Netball, Soccer and Lacrosse teams. All our participants did the school proud with their efforts, achievements and behaviour. The AFL and Netball teams came away with Winners Trophies for the school. Big thanks again to the coaches of all teams and the parent support was fantastic.

Kiss and Drive

We urge all parents using the car park during school time to drop off or collect students to;

  • Use the kiss and drive facility but please DO NOT use these bays as long term parking, and
  • Please beware of students, younger siblings and other families in the car park. We have had some reports of close misses and we would hate for anyone to get injured.
