Principal’s Report
Yet again, Term 3 has lived up to being the busiest term of the year. As we go into holidays next week, I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy time. Please note that the return date for Term 4 is Tuesday 10 October, as staff have a Professional Development Day on Monday 9.
Next term is also a busy term. Some dates to remember are the Colour Fun Run on Friday 20 October, the Maths and Science Incursion Day on Friday 27 October, Swimming lessons begin in Week 5 and the Kindergarten and Pre-primary have a Hospital Incursion in Week 2.
Mulch Delivery
A big thank you to Claire and Sandro for shifting a large load of mulch in the Early Learning Centre. The nature playground looks a lot better now. Claire and Sandro have three boys at our school. We do have more mulch being delivered, so if any other parents would like a turn with the shovel, we would be very grateful.
New Shed
The Kindergarten and Pre-primary children were entertained on Monday watching a very large crane bring a shed over the fence and trees to be positioned next to the transportable classroom. The children were quite concerned because a branch was broken from the tree.
Interschool Athletics Carnival
The Interschool Athletics carnival is being held at Anzac Terrance Primary School today, parents are welcome to attend. Mr Ker sent out a timetable via Seesaw last week. We wish all our competitors all the best.
Values Day
This term our Values Day will be held on Thursday instead of the final Friday. This means children will be dismissed on the final siren from their normal classroom. The children from Years One to Six will rotate through four different activities in the first morning session. This term Mr Radovic, Mr Evangelista, Mrs Ker and Mr Cotton are planning the activities. The factions can win points for their faction by demonstrating the values at the different stations. The winning faction for the term is then announced at an assembly at the end of the day.
Long Service Leave
As previously mentioned, the staff have two years from the date they accrue their Long Service Leave to use it all. This creates some interesting logistics as we cover with relief staff where required. I would like to thank everyone for their understanding when this occurs. This week we have four staff on leave and the first week of next term we have six. We do apologise for any inconvenience that this might create for your family.

Faction Athletics Carnival
What a wonderful three days of competition our 2023 Faction Athletics Carnival dished up. I was excited and pleased to see how the HPPS community got behind our annual event. Parent volunteers, supporters, P&C raffles, cake stalls, sausage sizzles and not to mention the glorious weather on Friday, all assisted to elevate the carnival to “Best Ever Status”.
It all started on Wednesday with the championship events. Many thanks go to the parents who helped at the jumps and throw pits, Jules (she thinks for her last time, haha), Nicole, Rachel and Jacquie. The Year 1 and 2 Cross Country event saw a “John Landy Moment” when Luca G ran back to help a fallen runner, congratulations on a magnificent display of sportsmanship Luca.
Friday turned on the weather and the oval looked a treat, freshly mowed and resplendent in colourful faction tents, tabloids equipment and Bali flags. Thank you to all the staff who got out of warm beds to assist.
After all the races were run, balls thrown, batons passed, jumps jumped and the parents defended their pass ball championship, it was O’Connor (Green) who got the choccies with 595 points, followed by Gairdner (Gold), Stirling (Red) and Forrest (Blue).
While we are BIG on participation and team support we do celebrate the athletes who shine, the following are our medallists for 2023.
GOLD | SILVER | BRONZE |
Shakyra | Aaliyah | Maddison |
Isla | Zoe | Ramla, Payton, Ayla |
Tahnee | Alannah | Tiyumba |
Tayla | Illania | Zahraa |
Tealia | Hannah | Jasmine |
Emily | Roxanna | Reehab |
Congratulations to Emily and Derrick who will be our Interschool Athletics Captains.
For Interschool, the Year 1 and 2 are Juniors, Year 3 and 4 are Intermediates and Year 5 and 6 are Seniors. Therefore, the students result in the championship events are compared across those year groups to make our team. For example, the longest two long jumpers from Year 1 and 2 combined go into the event.

Chinese Speaking Competition
The annual CLTAWA Speaking Competition this year was held at ECU Mt Lawley campus. Our student Emily S competed with over 10 other students to come in first in her Year 5 category. It was a brilliant performance! We are very proud of her amazing achievement.

Holiday Borrowing
Books from the library can be borrowed over the holidays but must be returned the first week back next term. Please help your child/children to keep these books safe and in good condition so other children can then borrow and read them when bought back to the library.
I love to see every child borrowing books and learning about responsibility when it comes to looking after something that is borrowed. There is so much to be learnt from reading.
Coming Up Next Term
I can’t believe we are approaching Term 4! Next term in the library we will be focusing on:
- Halloween 31 October
- Remembrance Day on the 11 November
- Christmas
Swimming lessons are also coming up next term. Please be mindful of library books with wet swimming gear.
I am always open to suggestions for displays in the library.
Parent help is also gratefully appreciated for shelving books, tidying up shelves, covering books (if confident) and helping with displays.
Library Monitors Profiles
Jasmin F - Jasmin was the winner of the Karen Kennett Library Award this year for Book Week. She consistently comes into the library with enthusiasm. Jasmin has been a Library Monitor for two terms now and has proven to be an asset to the library. Her duties include shelving books, circulation desk (returning and borrowing books for classes), stamping books, putting spine labels on books, displays and other general duties. Jasmine is a pleasure to have in the library.
LJ T - LJ is an amazing young man, who loves coming into the library and helping. He has done with enthusiasm whatever I have asked him to do, which has included: shelving books, circulation desk (returning and borrowing books for classes), stamping books, putting spine labels on books, displays and other general duties. It is a pleasure to have LJ in the library. He has only been a Library Monitor for a few weeks but already proofed himself very worthy.
More Library Monitor profiles to come in future newsletters!

Jersey Day
A big thank you to everyone who supported the Jersey Day fundraiser last week. It was so great to see the students representing their favourite sporting teams with pride! In total we were able to raise nearly $400, which will go towards the Year Six end of year graduation activities. Well done to the fundraising committee on the organising of the event, which consisted of Rokhaya N, Noah P, Esther K, Addison D, Sofia T, Riley W.
Thanks again and stay tuned for the next fundraising event!

Hampton Park Super Stars
On Saturday the 9 March, some of our Year 5/6 girls played in a netball grand final. Karlee W, Tealia B, Ayla T, Emily B and Ana C play together for the North Dianella Netball Club, who played against the Bayswater City Saints in a tense game. The girls started off slow, with the Saints taking the lead early and staying in front for most of the first half. North Dianella didn’t take the lead until late in the third quarter, where they scored five straight goals to go into the final break with a small lead. The girls continued to apply the pressure in the fourth quarter, led by Karlee W at GS who simply could not miss. She was on fire! When the final whistle blew, the score was 43-37 and the North Dianella Netball Club girls were crowned champions. It was a very exciting game to watch, and the Hampton girls played amazing.
Here is what the girls had to say following their big win:
Karlee: Getting to the grand final was an amazing experience for all of us as that was our goal for the season. We started off down but ended up winning by 6. Me and my team did an amazing job, so proud of us as it was our last game together for the season.
Tealia: Getting to the grand final was amazing. It was a tough game, but we ended up winning 43-37. It was good to win the last game that we will be playing together for the year.
Ayla: Our first year in a higher division turned out great. Coming from a lower division where we didn’t get much competition and weren’t allowed to move higher was hard, but luckily, we pushed through and managed to come home with the win. I’m so proud of my team and can’t wait for next year.
Emily: At the start of the year, we all made a goal to get to a grand final and we made that goal, winning the grand final 43-37. I am very proud of everyone.
Ana: All of us getting to the grand final for the first time was an amazing experience. At many times it challenged us to push for the last 15 minutes but in the end, we came out with a win.
