Principal’s Report
Welcome back to Semester 2, we trust you all had a great holiday break. We do have a few children wearing cast or slings on arms that weren’t there before the holidays so guessing it wasn’t so good for some.
Important Events
As always Term 3 is a very busy term. Please read the important dates listed in the newsletter. We have already had our faction cross country and this Friday is the interschool cross country. The interschool is held at Altone Park, parents are more than welcome to attend. Swimming lessons, PEAC testing, school photos, book week, One Big Voice, faction athletics, public speaking competition and interschool athletics are all on this term. Plus, the P&C have a Father’s Day stall on the 20 and 21 August.
Chance to Dance
The Western Australian Ballet Company are providing the school with ten free lessons, Room 6 are the lucky class to participate in the Chance to Dance program. Room 6 also have an all-expenses paid trip to His Majesty Theatre to watch the Ballet Company perform Sleeping Beauty on November 27. Chance to Dance is made possible by generous support from the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation and Woodside Energy. Stee Andrews, the Access & Outreach Schools Manager at West Australian Ballet chose our school as he was impressed after reading about our integration of children with disabilities into mainstream.
Staffing
As mentioned last week on a Seesaw message, Mr Ben Ker is currently acting Principal at Waddington Primary School. Ben re-joins us on Monday 5 August. Mr Mike Lee is replacing Ben as Deputy in his absence. We wish Ben all the best in his acting role.
Out of School Care
Another piece of news that I shared on Seesaw today was that we now have another service provider for before and after school care. Djinda Dreaming is at 252 Beechboro Rd North, near Red Roster and opposite Charlie’s Deli. They will provide a shuttle service to and from school. We do already have students using this service. Racing Car Challenge
Our latest technology project required us to create a race car using the Bric Q Motion Essential Lego Robotic boxes. We worked in pairs to design and customise our cars while exploring different variables like mass and rolling resistance to see whose car could roll the farthest from the launcher. We had loads of fun building, testing and racing them.

Library News
Welcome back to the new school term. This term we are starting a new challenge for a whole class reward where the students in one class will receive icy poles for bringing back the most books percentage wise. The total books returned will be based on the percentage of how many books the whole class brings back. If only a half of the class bring back books, then I will mark off 50% of the week, if three quarters of the class bring back books then I will mark off 75% of the week for that class.
Reward will be given at the end of the term for the class who has been most consistent with bringing back their books each week.
Chess Tournament
Chess club had a truly thrilling finish. A Year 5, Year 6 face-off between Tai from Room 9 and Adrian from Room 8. With Adrian being last year's winner and having a great run of games this term, he was looking like the one to beat. Tai had been a strong, fair and tactical player throughout all his games, taking his time and choosing each move with careful precision.
Tai’s patience and precision was masterful as he made aggressive, and smart moves up the board laying the pressure on early. Adrian responded well, but Tai continued to place the right piece in the right place, closing in on checkmate with pure professionalism. It did not take long before Tai had Adrian trapped and captured his king. The boys played a great match and shook hands to finish, displaying their fantastic sportsmanship! Well done to Tai our winner and Adrian our runner up for the 2024 student chess tournament!
Naidoc Week
We have a wonderful display for Naidoc Week made by two buddy classes. This will be on display for another week for all to have a look at.
Premiers Reading Challenge
Premier’s reading challenge is still on, and students can borrow most books and add them to their list to go towards achieving their goals for the challenge.
WAYRBA
Voting on WAYRBA books is continuing until the end of term 3. The more votes for these books the better for ensuring the Authors recognition of their books and the continuation of WAYRBA, helping our young readers have a choice of what they like to read.

Chinese News
Welcome back to Term 3 as we look forward to the celebration of the Mid-Autumn festival on 17 September. We have had a very long Term 2, but it ended with a good fun time activity that most of our students thoroughly enjoyed. We learned to make chicken mince toast. We operated outside the library and quickly organised ourselves into workstations. Each student was given a slice of white bread on which the marinated chicken mince was spread, then cut into quarters and cooked in the deep fryer. Our students enjoyed tucking into the golden, crispy and crunchy nugget-tasting toasties.
A couple of classes, namely R6 and R9, together with a few selected students from R7 and R8 were treated to stir-fried noodles too for working well as a class and setting a high standard in their work. I would like to thank all parents and staff for their invaluable help to make this activity run smoothly, enabling all students to have a fantastic time. Ms Messina, Mr McMaster, Ms Roberts, Ms Kay, Mrs Todd, Mrs Kustra, Ms Gosling, Mrs Davies, Ms Stannard and many others who have lend a hand in one way or another.
We managed to capture these moments of fun with a few snapshots below.
In Chinese class, we also ran a clockface design competition for the year fours and a Chinese club poster design competition. Students in R9, R8 and R7 cast their votes to select the top 3 pieces of work. It is a group effort.
(Ms Roberts presented prizes to the winners for both competitions.)

Staff V Students – Netball
The annual staff versus students’ netball game was held in Week 10 of last term. Whilst the score wasn’t recorded, and the staff were clear winners, the students played really well keeping the margin to just a few goals. A big thank you goes to Rebecca, one of our parents, who very kindly gave her time to umpire our game.
PJ Day – Year 6 Fundraiser
On Thursday June 20, the students at Hampton Park Primary School took part in pyjama day! This was organised by the Year Six students to help raise money for their end of year graduation lunch at Crown Perth Atrium Buffet. It was so much fun seeing all of the students dressed in their cosiest, warmest pyjamas and we had everything from Peter Alexander, to Oodies and a range of different onesies. In total, we were able to raise a little over $500, which is an amazing outcome. Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraiser and well done to the students on the fundraising committee, who helped organise it by making posters and advertising the event to all the classrooms. The students on the committee were: Grace D, Sophia G, Ayla T, Calvin H, Hannah B & Bailey G.
Stay tuned for our next fundraiser towards the end of Term Three... Jersey Day!
