Principal’s Report
With only nine weeks to this term, we are now almost at the end of Term 1 for 2024.
It has been a very busy term. Our Pre-Primary and Year 1 children have been busy with On Entry testing and parents’ summaries are going home this week. The Year 3 and 5 students are currently very busy with NAPLAN testing. Earlier in the term the children in Years 2 to 6 did PAT testing in reading and mathematics. Other children have been doing sight word testing or PLD spelling testing and next week all the children will do their quarterly Origio Maths test. What a busy testing term!
P&C News
Thank you to Ashton and the amazing fundraising team within the P&C, this Friday’s Easter Trail on the oval looks set to be a great deal of fun. All families are welcome to attend this free event. There will be stalls selling items like baked goods and cool drinks so you may wish to bring some loose change with you, alternatively eftpos facilities will be available. The children have the choice to wear free dress to school this Friday, with a Gold Coin donation going to the P&C if they do participate. The raffle prizes look amazing, and the raffle will be drawn next Tuesday 26 March, so make sure you send your raffle tickets back in by then.
Speaking to Students on School Grounds
On occasion, parents have been known to tell someone else’s child off for a misbehaviour towards their own child. This is extremely inappropriate behaviour. Only staff at the school have that right and that would only ever be after the situation had been investigated. It is very distressing to a child to have, what in some cases, is an unknown adult suddenly telling them off. If you feel that your child has been slighted by another child, please speak to your child’s teacher in the first instance. The situation will then be dealt with through the correct channels.
Early Arrival to School
The school day doesn’t officially start until 8:45 am when the first siren sounds. The teachers open their doors at 8:30 am so the children can come in and prepare for the day. We ask families attempt to drop their child/ren to school as close to 8:30 am as possible. Teachers work in their rooms prior to 8:30 am and it is very distracting when children are playing outside the doors. From the first day of Term 2, if a student must arrive before 8:30 am, we ask that they go straight to the undercover area with their bag and not go to their classroom. These children will be supervised there by admin staff.
Harmony Day
Next Wednesday we will be celebrating Harmony Day. Communications have already been sent home regarding this. Please check with your child’s teacher if you didn’t get the notes. This year as well as our Long Table Lunch, which we love everyone bringing their traditional food from their cultural background for, the children also have an opportunity to participate in Bollywood dancing. This is an incursion and does require the children paying to participate. There will be rotational activities happening in all the classrooms as well. We hope that by the end of the day the children have learnt at least one new thing about another country that they didn’t know before or have tried different food.
School Chaplain
Many thanks to Mr Joshua Benjamins, who has been our Chaplain here for two years. Joshua’s last day is Thursday 28 March, as he will be moving to another location to continue his work closer to home. We wish Joshua and his wife, Aly, all the best for the birth of their first child in August. The school is currently looking at a replacement for Joshua.

We have a Harmony Day display in progress in the library which will we will be adding to over the next week, this will feature in the next newsletter.
WAYBRA – Coming Soon
Children will be able to read and vote on books on display, which will help choose winning books at the end of the year across WA for WAYBRA. Last year’s winners were ‘Frank’s Red Hat’ by Sean Avery and ‘The Baby-Sitters Little Sister: Karen’s Roller Skates’ by Ann M. Martin. This year’s theme is ‘Reading is Magic’.

Dental Health Services Message
Reminder Regarding Smile Patrol Attending Hampton Park Primary School
To the parents of Hampton Park Primary School,
Dental Health Services would like to advise that we are not affiliated with the Smile Patrol Program. Dental Health Services is a government-funded service which provides free routine dental care for children aged 4 to 17 years of age, including treatment.
Smile Patrol, as per their website, is a private company based in Victoria, Australia. As always, you are free to choose which dental provider you and your child attend. Please keep in mind that for those who receive $1095 every two years through the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, then these funds will be used to pay for your child’s treatment at Smile Patrol (as per the website). Should your child require further treatment at a private dentist or paediatric specialist, then you may need to pay out of pocket expenses.
Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact myself at Guildford Dental Therapy Centre, on 9279 5869.
Thank you and kind regards,
Dr. Joshua Oversby
Dental Officer, Guildford
