Principal’s Report
Welcome to Week 4 of Term 1.
Professional Learning Day
We have a Professional Learning Day for the staff on Friday 1 March. Children do not attend school on this day. Monday 4 March is a public holiday for Labour Day. This gives the children a four-day break. Hopefully the weather will be cooler by then and they will be able to recharge their batteries after this hot weather. The teaching staff will be involved in training for Talk 4 Writing. This has been a very successful program and we are seeing a lot of benefits from its use.
Covid Cases
We are still having staff members and students being diagnosed with Covid. If your child is unwell, please do a RAT in case.
Out of School Care
Unfortunately, we have a situation pending with one of our Before and After school care providers, ‘TheirCare’. At the end of last year TheirCare had approximately 20 children in the afternoons for care. We were unable to offer them any space at the school based on our increased numbers and the undercover area was not suitable during extreme hot or cold weather. In good faith of expecting numbers to continue they purchased a bus to run a shuttle service between here and Noranda Primary School. The problem they have is that the numbers have dramatically declined and with only two to three students, this is not viable for them to continue. My understanding is that they will be closing the service at the end of next week if I can’t give them a guarantee that numbers will increase. This is the reason for this message. If there are any parents who are intending to use the service, please message me with your name and number of students so that I can pass it on. I believe if they had a regular 8 children it would be viable. This is quite a critical service for some of our parents as the only other service provider that runs a shuttle service to the school is Morley Out of School Care and they have been declining requests as they are at capacity.
School Board Parent Members
Nominations are still open for parent members on the School Board. The board meets at 5:30 pm one Monday per term, usually around Week 5, with an option for extra meetings if required. There is a training night being planned for early next term for board members.

Chinese News
It was a lovely summer’s morning. All our students assembled on the verandas, in front of the former office and on the steps of the library in eager anticipation of the highlight of the day, the Lion Dance performance by the Chung Wah Lion Dance Troupe. At 9 am sharp, the show started with two beautiful, bright yellow lions poised in the centre of the quadrangle, ready to entertain the captive spectators with their prancing, dancing, and jumping up in the air. They danced to the beat of the drum, moving skilfully from one end of the quadrangle to the other, giving out mandarins, lollies and new year lucky objects to students who were able to catch them.
Mrs Arnott remembers from her previous experience she needs to catch as much of the lettuce leaves that the lion spits out, the more lettuce caught, the greater fortune comes her way. I bet it might have been easier if it had been a cricket ball because of her cricketing prowess in her younger days. Well, she caught a fair amount of lettuce, so fortune awaits, and we will get a share as she is a kind and generous leader. Whilst Mrs Arnott had double dose of well-wishing, Ms Webb and Mr Ker also have their share of fortune well-wisher with the goodie bag all of them received from student representatives Flynn H, Rochelle S and Emily S.
It was wonderful to see our students having an exciting time watching and interacting with the lions. We at Hampton Park were delighted to see parents and carers join us in this happy and joyous occasion. It is like a huge extended Hampton Park family. I would like to thank everyone who has helped to make this festive celebration a joyous and exciting one. Ms Webb for capturing the moments with her photographic skills, Mr Ker for setting up the PA sound system and many others who have lend a hand.
We would like to wish everyone, including those who were not able to join us, a healthy, prosperous, and happy Year of the Dragon.
Please enjoy and/or relive the event of the morning with these pictures. As the saying goes, “a picture speaks a thousand words”!

Library News
Welcome back to the library! This year has seen changes that include having Mrs Lee, our Chinese Teacher come and join us in the library from Monday to Wednesday. This is a very welcome addition for the library.
Mr Reynolds is also a welcome addition replacing Mrs O’Neill teaching Library Studies while she is on LSL. He will be here on Thursday and Friday mornings teaching Health.
Mr Lee will also at times be in the library on a Friday for Health, which means that the library is a very busy and wonderful place to be.
Chinese New Year: The Year of the Dragon
We have also been celebrating Chinese New Year in the library. We have talked about the customs and traditions of Chinese New Year which includes lucky foods, lucky colours and lucky numbers. We also learn the auspicious sayings during this festive season. Our students are designing posters and Hong Baos with the dragon theme. The junior primaries are colouring in posters and given red packets with Chinese yuan inside.
Library Monitors
We now have 2 Library Monitors.
LJ, who was also a Library Monitor from last year, but very keen to keep going in the role this year.
Estebahn, who was very eager to be a Library Monitor this year, so I didn’t want to disappoint him. He will be a great addition to our team.
Logan, a young man who loves coming to the library and is an avid reader, will also be a great addition to our team.
Welcome back to the library one and all!

Second-Hand Uniform Shop
We have two amazing volunteers who run the second-hand uniform shop each week. It is open on Tuesdays and Fridays 8:15am to 9:00am. Located behind the undercover area next to the nature playground and basketball court. We are currently in need of donations to continue to have a supply for families. We sell each item for $2 each, making this a much more affordable way to dress our kids in school uniform. If you have items to donate, please drop off to the shop during open times or drop into the donations bin in the office, thank you.
Scholastic Book Club
We would like to thank everyone who made an order for Issue 1! A massive $500 worth of books were ordered, it is great to see so many students kick start their reading for 2024! Once we receive the orders, Connie our volunteer will pack and distribute to each student who ordered. We would also like to thank Connie for her continued support with running this program for our school.
