Principal’s Report
John Gunther 1901 – 1970 is quoted for saying, “So much to do and so little time to do it in.” The statement is still true today and yet we now have so many devices at hand that are meant to make life/work easier. Term Four is a busy term, which includes lots of planning for next year too.
Swimming Lessons
Swimming Lessons commence next Monday, 6 November. We are incredibly happy to have lessons in the warmer weather this year, it makes a nice change. Unfortunately, it also means that the admission price to Bayswater Waves is higher than it is in the winter months, consequently that, along with the rising cost of petrol for the buses means that the lessons per student cost more.
Learning to swim in Australia is one of the most important skills any child can obtain. Approximately 85% of the population live in the coastal areas of Australia. One in seven Australians live in a house with a pool/spa. 339 people drowned in Australia between 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022. This could be reduced if all children learnt to swim.
Maths/Science Day
Last Friday we held our biennial Maths/Science Day. The children had a wonderful time concentrating on these two important learning areas for the day. The reptiles certainly intrigued many people although not everyone was comfortable holding them.
The Year Five and Six children had a terrific time in their mathematical race around the world. It looked very entertaining while being informative too.
Car Park
There is a new staff carpark on Hamersley Avenue. This parking area has two visitors bays and one universal access bay for people with an ACROD parking permit. There is a gate from the carpark back into the school, which leads to a pathway next to the large green shed. This should ensure anyone that needs to use an ACROD bay smooth access into the school. There is also an ACROD bay at the back of the administration block, plus one on Paine Road.
School Canteen
The wonderful volunteers running the school canteen will re-open for lunches on Mondays and Tuesdays commencing Week 7, Monday 20 November. It has been decided to keep the canteen closed during the weeks in which swimming lessons are held as some of the classes have their lunch time affected by the swimming lessons.
Schools Online
If you have not visited this web page before I urge you to check it out. It is an Education Department web site that gives information on every school in the state. Schools Online Department of Education Western Australia (det.wa.edu.au) When you first go to the site it asks for the name of the school. Once supplied the page then gives information on student numbers, attendance data, staff numbers, overviews of school programs, NAPLAN results, Annual Reports, Business Plans etc. If you don’t know the name of the school that you are looking for it does have a link to list all schools in WA. Schools have a requirement to upload certain documents to this webpage. Consequently, if you are searching an individual school’s web page and it doesn’t contain what you are looking for try the Schools Online page as it may be there.
School Survey
Thank you to the terrific people that took advantage of giving feedback to the school in our recent survey. The results will be presented to the staff and school board members next week.

Netball Clinic
All the Year 1 to 6 students have participated in some netball clinics, funded through the Sporting Schools program.
The future "Diamonds or Kelpies" took part in footwork drills, passing the ball exercises, shot for goals and then put them all together in some netball based games.
Swimming Lessons
Our In-Term Swimming Lessons will begin on Monday 6 November, they run until Friday 17 November. All children from PP to Year 6 are invited to attend and permission notes with information were sent out in Week 2.
Children are to come dressed, ready to swim with their bathers on underneath their school uniform. After they have completed their lesson, they will get changed out of their bathers into school uniform in the outdoor change rooms near the 50m pool. If your child requires a shower due to medical reasons, please let the classroom teacher know so that they can be accommodated (all children are able to have a quick rinse). Please provide a waterproof bag for wet bathers and towels and LABEL ALL clothing and belongings.
Parents are able to attend their children's swimming lesson, but the pool may charge an entry fee.
If you have any concerns before or during swimming lessons, please contact Mr Lee by email or written note.
Some classes, due to timetabling, will be having an early/late recess/lunch.
Lesson Time | Classes Attending | |
9:20 - 10:00 am | C1 C4 R1 | |
10:05 - 10:45 am | C2 R2 R7 | Late Recess |

Swimming Carnival
Our Faction Swimming Carnival will be held on November 24 from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm for Year 3 to 6 students who have attended swimming lessons.
Year 3 students will need to be in or passed Level 4 (the minimum swimming level where children are able to swim unassisted for at least 15 meters).
Permission and information notes will be sent home in Week 5. Our main emphasis is on participation and the children can pick events they want to participate in during the carnival. There will be events for confident swimmers, traditional events like freestyle, breast stroke, backstroke and butterfly, where champion swimmer points will be allocated. There will also be plenty of tabloid events for those who just want to get wet and earn points for their faction, such as Across the Pool relays, Swim and Fetch relay (collecting balls from above and under water) and Boogie Board races.
The carnival runs to a very "fluid" timetable and depends on the students as to how many events/heats are run. Parents are invited to come along and cheer for their favourite athletes and factions, however, please be aware that the pool may charge an entry fee.
Rugby Clinic
Some of our students had the opportunity to take part in a Rugby Union clinic last week. Here are some photos of Room 3 students learning some skills from quite a “Foreign" game with some "strange" rules, for West Aussie kids!

Hampton Park Super Stars
Our Head Boy, Stojan T and Head Girl, Holly M from the 2017 cohort have both accomplished great things whilst attending Hampton Senior High School.
Stojan was awarded Dux (ATAR), Mathematics, Mathematics Specialist, Physics, Chemistry, City of Bayswater prize, and the Australian Defence Force Future Innovators award.
Holly was awarded Academic Excellence, Commitment to excellence award, and the ADF Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork award.
It’s fantastic to see two of our high achieving students continue the same trajectory that they had whilst here at Hampton Park Primary. We wish them both all the very best in their future endeavours.
Planning for the 2024 School Year
Now is the ideal time to notify us if you are moving home or school. If your child/children won’t be returning to Hampton Park Primary School next year, please advise us via email at hamptonpark.ps@education.wa.edu.au
School Board
On Monday 14 August, we held our third Board meeting for the year.
The Board was presented with the achievements of our Business Plan 2020 – 2022 targets. Many of the targets were achieved, while targets that weren’t achieved would be rolled over to the new Business plan 2023 – 2025.
In the Principal’s report, we noted that there was a need to appoint a further Special Needs Education Assistant for our Specialised Learning Program (SLP). In addition, our staff are now beginning to implement Brightpath as a Writing Moderation Tool to assist our students with their writing skills.
The Board has endorsed the Head Lice Management Policy and was presented with 2024 Charges and Contributions. Changes in some of the charges were due to rising operational costs.
There are currently two vacant Parent Representative Board positions which require immediate filling. We would like to acknowledge Sarah Wiley’s brief membership and contribution. We would like to also recognise Natalie Batchelor’s contribution and service since 2022.
Please contact the office if you would like to find out more information or are keen to fill the position. Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday 6 November 2023 at 5:30 pm in the school boardroom located in the Administration building and we welcome any parents to join us at our Board meeting as an ‘Observer’.
